Yumi Koshima

Born in Kyoto and raised in Kobe, Japan, I faced a long and difficult battle with severe depression, spending more than a decade on heavy medication throughout my twenties.

Around the age of thirty, I made a life-changing move to Los Angeles, determined to find a way to live without medication. With the support of a psychotherapist and the people I met along the way, I began rebuilding my life—working multiple jobs while continuing my work as a jazz pianist. Over time, I became an independent freelancer as both a piano teacher and performer, and I also earned a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher certificate.

I completed a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and Piano Performance at California State University, Northridge, and afterward worked as a pianist on a cruise ship, traveling through Europe and the Caribbean. I later decided to pursue a Master’s degree at Saint. Louis College of Music in Rome, Italy.

In sharing my journey with mental health, I hope to inspire deep feelers and self-critical souls to embrace who they truly are, to live authentically, and to feel a gentle light beside them through their challenging seasons, always with love at the core.
